Apprentices Gear Up for Totally Stockport Krazy Races 2026

At Elevated Knowledge, we are passionate about giving our apprentices opportunities to apply their skills in real, exciting, and meaningful ways — and there’s no better example of this than our annual participation in the Totally Stockport Krazy Races.

Taking place on Sunday 9th August 2026, this fantastic community event has become a highlight of our calendar, and one that our learners look forward to each year.

From Wooden Escalator to T3 – Our Krazy Races Journey

Our first entry into Krazy Races saw our apprentices design and build a unique wooden escalator-themed kart. For many of them, it was their first experience of working on a live engineering project outside of the workshop, and they rose to the challenge brilliantly — securing 18th place and gaining invaluable hands-on experience along the way.

Last year, our team returned stronger with a revised and improved kart, affectionately named ‘T2’, finishing an impressive 7th place. In true engineering fashion, the apprentices analysed performance, identified areas for improvement, and reflected on real-world challenges. Unfortunately, a purchased brake component failed during the race, resulting in 2-second penalties when we hit the end hay bale — a lesson in reliability, testing, and engineering problem-solving that no classroom alone could replicate.

Introducing T3 – Designed and Built by Apprentices

This year, preparations are already well underway for our newest kart: ‘T3’.

Our apprentices are currently:

• Designing the new kart structure

• Manufacturing and fabricating components

• Applying mechanical and fabrication skills in a live project

• Testing design improvements and safety features

• Collaborating as a team from concept to build

• Making engineering decisions before even choosing the final colour scheme

What makes this project even more special is the expert guidance behind it. Our welding instructor, who spent a significant part of his career working in Formula One, brings a wealth of real-world industry experience to the build, helping learners understand precision engineering, structural integrity, and performance design in a practical and inspiring way.
